Collaborating, Innovating, Transforming: 2023 Economic Development Conference for the EDA Denver Region will occur April 10 – 12, 2023 at the Curtis Hotel in Denver, CO.

The conference is designed for Economic Development Districts, Tribal Planning Grantees, University Centers, Revolving Loan Funds, and others engaged in economic development across the region. The EDA Denver Region covers a 10-state footprint (CO, IA, KS, MO, MT, ND, NE, SD, UT, and WY).  The NADO Research Foundation is planning the event with support from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) Denver Regional Office.

Mobile Workshops                                                                                                 

Smart Futures Lab                                                                       

The Smart Futures Lab, located at the University of Colorado Denver, is a business incubator and accelerator for underrepresented companies located in the Denver area.  The Lab will offer an array of services and programs to clients including access to smart cities thought leaders, 5G network for research and development activities, and a supporting ecosystem of peers.  Workshop is limited to 20 participants; pre-registration is required and there is an additional fee of $15.

Brownfield Transformations in Denver                                   

Join the Technical Assistance to Brownfields (TAB) team for a walking mobile workshop of brownfield sites in the Denver area. Learn the stories behind these projects and lessons to take back to transform sites in your region.  Workshop is limited to 25 participants; pre-registration is required and there is an additional fee of $20.

The Kitchen Network

Learn about this unique kitchen incubator which empowers local food entrepreneurs from across the Denver metro area.  The Kitchen Network provides commercial kitchens for its clients, as well as resources from industry experts.  With two locations, Kitchen Network incubates about 100 specialty food businesses a year.  Workshop is limited to 20 participants; pre-registration is required and there is an additional fee of $20.

Colorado Outdoor Recreation Economy

Colorado’s outdoor recreation industry accounts for $9.6 billion in value-added (GDP) annually and 120,000 direct jobs.  Join us outdoors to learn from the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Office(OREC) on statewide efforts to advance the health of the outdoor economy, while exploring recreation development at downtown Denver’s Confluence Park and entrepreneurial and workforce development at Denver’s downtown Auraria campus.   Workshop is limited to 20 participants; pre-registration is required and there is an additional fee of $15.

Joe McKinney serves as Executive Director of the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO). Headquartered in Washington DC, NADO provides advocacy, education, research, and training for the nation’s 500+ regional planning and development organizations.

Joe has thirty-one years of experience having served in city, county, regional, national association, and government management since 1991. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy Analysis from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a candidate for a master’s degree in Public Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill.

McKinney has provided congressional testimony on numerous occasions regarding the importance of regional development organizations in helping shape the nation’s economic growth. He is nationally recognized for promoting innovative solutions in areas such as planning and economic development, workforce development, transportation and transit, and aging services.
