POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

COMMUNITY AND REGIONAL RESILIENCY PLANNER

The Pee Dee Regional Council of Governments, located in Florence, SC, seeks a highly motivated person for the position of Community and Regional Resiliency Planner. This position has responsibility for successfully carrying out planning functions of the agency with special emphasis on resiliency planning. Planning functions include land use, transportation, natural resource, economic development, community development, housing, and technical assistance. The Resiliency Planner position will be expected to carry out typical planning functions but with a specific focus on ensuring that these functions enhance and improve the overall resiliency of the region.

About the Pee Dee Regional Council of Governments

The Pee Dee Regional Council of Governments (COG) is one of ten regional planning and technical assistance organizations in South Carolina and is organized by state law to serve local governments in six counties: Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Marion, and Marlboro. The Council is governed by a 27-member board of directors appointed by county councils in each of the six member counties. The Council is financially supported by per-capita contributions from the six member counties, an appropriation from the State of South Carolina, direct service contracts, and other sources.

The mission of the Council is to assist local governments and organizations in a wide variety of planning, economic development, workforce investment, and other technical services that will help meet the human and physical development needs of the region.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job functions include:

  • Assisting with updating the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy to ensure a focus on regional resiliency;
  • Preparing and presenting resiliency plans for local governments as needed;
  • Providing technical assistance to local governments on resiliency planning functions, including comprehensive plans, development and strategic plans, economic development, zoning, land development regulations, housing, and historic preservation;
  • Representing the agency and serving on task forces and study teams for regional and state agency planning processes; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of the Urban and Regional Planning. The ability to analyze complex information to produce an accurate analysis and draw conclusions is vital for this position. The Community and Regional Resiliency Planner must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with GIS applications is desired. The planner must have strong writing and oral presentation skills. The individual must also be organized, a self-starter, creative, innovative and responsible.

Minimum Requirements

The minimum requirements for this position are a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or a related field and a minimum of at least four years experience working as a professional planner. A Master’s degree and AICP certification are desired.

Salary
