EDA reauthorization Update: Monday, December 16, 2024
The WRDA bill is on the Senate calendar for consideration at 3:00 pm today, Monday, 12/16, and the Senate vote is anticipated to occur tomorrow. We will provide another update to the membership once the Senate vote has occurred.
Older Adults and Economic Development: Planning for an Aging Population
The United States is experiencing rapid population aging, which is reshaping regional labor markets, healthcare demands, consumer spending patterns, housing needs, and public services. Economic Development Districts (EDDs) can play a critical role in addressing these challenges and enabling older adults to age in place. This report explores the various regional impacts of population aging, as well as the roles that EDDs can and have filled to ensure people and economies are able to thrive.
North Central Regional Food Business Center – One Year Later (Blog)
The North Central Regional Food Business Center is led by NADO member and Economic Development District (EDD), Region Five Development Commission (R5DC). In Summer 2023, at the request of R5DC, Melissa Levy, NADO’s regional development researcher and wealth creation specialist, offered wealth creation training in three states: Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Region Five had engaged 35 key partners throughout the three states, including all EDDs.
Wealth Creation in New Orleans (Blog)
During the 2024 Annual Training Conference in New Orleans, LA, two mobile workshops were organized to illustrate wealth creation concepts and how communities are keeping wealth local: the Lafitte Greenway and Tour of New Orleans’ Cooperative Businesses and History.
Reclaiming Vacant Properties (RVP) Conference
In October 2024, the Center for Community Progress hosted the Reclaiming Vacant Properties (RVP) Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. The RVP Conference brings together state and local governments, land bank authorities, federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, foundations, and regional organizations, all of whom work in property redevelopment or reclamation, land banking, Brownfields, housing, or community and economic development.

Federal Grant Administration Webinar Series
To assist RDOs in the transition to the revised rules, NADO is sponsoring a four-part webinar series that will provide detailed coverage of key aspects of the new policies. The series will be presented by Bob Lloyd, who has conducted dozens of NADO sponsored training programs and has provided extensive technical support on the numerous comments that NADO has submitted to OMB urging policy features that recognize the unique role that RDO’s play in many federal grant programs.
