EDD-Tribal Collaboration: Building the Blueprint in Southwest Colorado

This case study explores how Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado has built and sustained meaningful partnerships with the Ute Mountain Ute and Southern Ute Tribes. Through a combination of formal governance structures and informal relationship-building strategies—including board representation, joint planning processes, regular convenings, and transparent communication—Region 9 has created a model for respectful, productive collaboration. It offers practical insights for other EDDs seeking to deepen engagement with Tribal Governments in their regions.
