The Eastern Carolina Council with headquarters in New Bern, North Carolina, seeks qualified candidates for the position of Executive Director.

The Eastern Carolina Council is one of 16 multi-county planning and development regions in the State. The Council is governed by a Board of Directors representing the local governments and interests of the region. The Council acts as a forum for local and regional leaders to determine priorities for the nine-county area in which their individual communities are an integral part. The nine counties and their municipalities that make up the Eastern Carolina Council are Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Onslow, Pamlico, and Wayne.

The successful candidate will be expected to partner, advise, and lead the ECC Board of Directors and other regional leaders to enhance the Council’s strategic direction, focus, and offerings on important public policy issues affecting the region and its member governments. The position serves as the Council’s representative at the regional, state and federal level. The position is responsible for managing and supervising the professional staff of the Council.

The candidate should have knowledge of public administration, social service delivery, grant writing and grant administration, community and transportation planning, and, community economic development. The candidate will have knowledge of the principles and practices of intergovernmental relations. The candidate’s record will reflect the ability and experience in directing and supervising a staff of professional employees and administrative personnel. The candidate will possess excellent communication skills through oral and writing means including social media. The candidate will possess thorough knowledge and understanding of the function of local, state and federal governments. Their record will demonstrate the ability to build consensus among officials and partners to further the mission of the Council and its member governments. Have the ability to market and promote the Council’s programs and services in the region. The candidate must possess the knowledge and understanding of regionalism and have the ability to work regionally. The candidate’s record will reflect experience in budgeting and financial management of a public organization.

Compensation for the position will be competitive based on qualifications and experience.
