Transportation Safety: Moving the Nation Toward Zero Deaths

Posted on: November 4th, 2015 by Carrie Kissel

Although traffic fatalities have significantly decreased in recent decades, crashes are still  responsible for causing over 32,000 deaths in the United States each year.  This session contained applicable lessons from local, regional, and national-level efforts to decrease fatalities in this session for RDO executive directors, planning staff, and board members.  In addition to the presentations below, the presenters also shared resources and videos for addressing transportation safety, and attendees got to experience a reduction in their motor skills by wearing special goggles simulating impairment.  Resources available for RDO professionals and other stakeholders to use to advance safety within their regions include:

  • Toward Zero Deaths: The National Strategy on Highway Safety (http://www NULL.towardzerodeaths NULL.org/)
  • Videos to extend the reach of the Toward Zero Deaths Vision (http://www NULL.towardzerodeaths NULL.org/marketing/marketing-collateral/)
