Senator Shelby Begins Tenure as Chairman of Senate Appropriations Committee

Posted on: April 13th, 2018 by NADO Admin

On April 11, Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) was selected by fellow Senate Republicans to serve as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.  Shelby previously served as vice chairman.  The appointment follows the retirement of former Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS) who served as Senate Appropriations Committee chairman and left the Senate earlier this month due to health concerns.  Senator Shelby will also serve as chairman of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.  The shifting of Senator Shelby’s subcommittee assignment left an opening for the chairmanship of the Commerce-Science-Justice Appropriations Subcommittee which was filled by Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS).  Cochran’s appointed replacement, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), will serve on the Senate Appropriations Committee.  For a complete list of Senate Appropriations subcommittee chairs and members, click here (https://www NULL.appropriations NULL.senate NULL.gov/news/majority/shelby-selected-as-senate-appropriations-chairman).
