This week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released the text of a Continuing Resolution (CR) to extend current funding levels for most federal agencies until December 9. The measure also includes $1.1 billion to combat the Zika virus. The Senate is scheduled to take a procedural vote limiting debate on the spending package on Tuesday. Senate Democrats have voiced concern about what is left out of the package. Namely, federal assistance for residents of Flint, MI whose water supply was contaminated earlier this year by lead. The current fiscal year ends September 30 and a CR will need to be passed and signed into law next week to keep federal programs operational and avoid a government shutdown.
