Posted on: December 20th, 2013 by NADO Admin

On December 17, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee held a confirmation hearing on several of President Obama’s nominees for key positions in the administration. Included in the hearing was the nomination of Jay Williams to be Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development. Williams was introduced by Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown (both of Ohio) who spoke positively about his tenure as mayor of Youngstown, OH and in support of his nomination to head the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). The next step in confirmation is a vote by the members of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee which has not yet been scheduled. If Williams’ nomination is approved at the committee level, it will be considered by the full U.S. Senate. 51 votes are needed to confirm the appointment.
