This week, the Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously approved its version of a fiscal year (FY) 2017 Commerce-Justice-Science Appropriations bill. The bill totals $56.3 billion, $563 million above the FY2016 enacted level and $1.6 billion above the President’s budget request.
For the U.S. Economic Development Administration, the bill provides $254 million in total funding ($7 million below the FY2016 enacted level and $5 million below the President’s budget request) with $215 million designated for Economic Development Assistance Programs ($7 million below the FY2016 enacted amount and level with the President’s budget request). The bill includes the following funding allocations for Economic Development Assistance Programs:
- Partnership Planning: $33 million, $1 million above current levels and $2 million below the President’s budget request;
- Public Works: $100 million, level with FY2016 funding and $15 million above the President’s budget request;
- Economic Adjustment Assistance: $36.5 million, $1.5 million above current levels and $13.5 million below the President’s budget request;
- Technical Assistance: $11 million, level with FY2016 funding and $1 million below the President’s budget request;
- Research and Evaluation: $1.5 million, level with FY2016 funding and $1.5 million below the President’s budget request;
- Trade Adjustment Assistance: $13 million, level with FY2016 funding and $3 million above the President’s budget request;
- Regional Innovation Strategies: $20 million, $5 million above FY2016 funding and level with the President’s budget request;
- Assistance for Coal Mining Communities: no funding provided, $15 million below the FY2016 level and consistent with the President’s budget request.
