Senate Appropriations Committee Approves FY2014 Homeland Security Spending Measure; Includes $1.5 Billion for FEMA’s Preparedness Grants

On July 18, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved by a vote of 21 to 9 its FY2014 Department of Homeland Security funding bill. The legislation totals $46.4 billion for FY2014, which is $493 million below the FY2013 enacted level. The bill includes $5.6 billion for FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund and $1.5 billion for FEMA’s State and Local preparedness grant programs, which is $38 million above the FY2013 enacted level. The Homeland Security Appropriations Bill now heads to the Senate floor for consideration. The exact date of floor consideration has not yet been determined.
