President Trump plans to release a budget blueprint for fiscal year (FY) 2018 to Congress in the next few weeks. While the statutory deadline for the president to submit a budget was February 6, that deadline is not generally met when a new president has come into office. The outline should provide insight into the administration’s tax and spending priorities. It is not clear when Congress will begin considering FY2018 spending given that spending for the current fiscal year is operating under a continuing resolution that expires April 28.
