President Obama Delivers State of the Union Address

Posted on: January 23rd, 2015 by NADO Admin

On January 22, President Obama delivered his annual State of the Union address to Congress.  The President laid out an ambitious agenda for the coming year, which includes an overhaul to the tax system, paid sick leave and child care for families, and free community college.  He proposes an increase to the tax rate on investment income to pay for these new programs, but it’s unlikely to gain traction in the new Congress.  Additionally, he called on Congress to pass bipartisan infrastructure legislation that would create jobs and stimulate continued economic growth.  He also asked Congress to pass a transportation bill to fund infrastructure and improvement projects by closing more business tax loopholes.

The President intends to release his fiscal year (FY) 2016 budget request to Congress on February 2nd.  NADO legislative staff will provide further analysis once the budget request is available.
