The International Economic Development Council’s Annual Conference (http://www NULL.iedcevents NULL.html# NULL.UegJ-43VA8Q) is coming up on October 6-9 in Philadelphia.  The world’s largest gathering of economic developers, the conference offers a program of top speakers, cutting-edge topics, and educational tours; an opportunity to experience Philadelphia’s transformation from a manufacturing-based economy into an innovative region with a diverse array of strengths; and a chance for participants to learn about fresh strategies and tools to take their organizations and communities to the next level.  This year, IEDC is placing special emphasis on post-disaster economic recovery and disaster preparedness, offering mentoring opportunities, a special session on disaster preparedness and economic recovery, and an in-depth workshop on small business recovery and financing.  Communities in the EDA Atlanta and Philadelphia regions (http://www NULL.eda NULL.htm) whose counties received Presidential disaster declarations in FY2011 can apply to participate in 90-minute private mentoring sessions with IEDC members who possess expertise in relevant economic recovery topics.  A 4-hour workshop on October 7 will focus on financing strategies economic development organizations can employ to help small businesses recover from disasters.  Information on how communities can apply for mentoring and registration for the workshop can be found on, and the full conference program is available here (http://www NULL.iedcevents NULL.html# NULL.UegJ-43VA8Q).  Please contact Dana Crater at [email protected] with questions.
