NADO Joins Letter to USDOT on Transit Representation on MPO Boards

Posted on: October 2nd, 2013 by NADO Admin

NADO recently signed a letter to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx along with the Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (AMPO) and the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) on the issue of public transit provider representation on Metropolitan Planning Organizations’ (MPOs) boards. Under the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21), each MPO that serves as an area designated as a transportation management area should include on its board representation by providers of public transportation. In the letter, NADO and the other signatories ask Secretary Foxx when developing guidance on this provision of MAP-21 to allow MPOs the flexibility to meet these requirements without the mandate that a transit representative seat be a voting member of an MPO’s board.
