NADO Joins Coalition Partners Urging Agriculture Leaders to Include Strong Rural Development Title in Final Farm Bill; Conferees Hold First Meeting

Posted on: November 1st, 2013 by NADO Admin

This week, as part of the Campaign for Renewed Rural Development (http://www NULL.ruralcampaign NULL.org/) (CRRD), NADO joined 26 other organizations urging Farm Bill Conference Committee members to support a strong Rural Development title in a final Farm Bill. This includes mandatory funding levels for key USDA-Rural Development programs and the enactment of strategic economic/community programs for rural regions. Click here to view the joint letter.

On October 30, the Farm Bill Conference Committee met for opening statements. Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-NC) brought up the Rural Development Title and urged funding for rural economic development programs during his opening statement. The Conference Committee has yet to start actual debate on the two bills. NADO legislative staff will continue to monitor the ongoing Conference Committee negotiations. Current Farm Bill law (P.L. 110-246), extended earlier this year, expired on September 30.
