Job title: Staff Accountant

Position Description:
The Staff Accountant will work closely with NADO’s financial consultants and staff directors to help oversee the comprehensive financial management of the organization, encompassing both operational and grant-related finances. This position is integral to ensuring the organization’s fiscal integrity and advancing its mission.
Key responsibilities:
- Strategic Financial Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with NADO's financial consultants and staff directors to implement financial recommendations, optimize financial processes, and uphold best practices.
- Provide financial insights for strategic planning initiatives that influence policy and programmatic decisions.
- Financial Management and Oversight
- Work closely with NADO’s financial consultants to oversee cash flow from month to month and report to NADO staff leadership on cash flow and other similar markers of the organization’s financial health.
- Oversee the review and approval process for timesheets and expense reports.
- Assist in developing and managing the annual budget in conjunction with the Executive Director and management team, ensuring it reflects the strategic objectives of NADO. Provide detailed financial analyses and forecasts to aid in decision-making.
- Coordinate external audits with NADO’s financial consultants and provide support during the audit process.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of monthly and quarterly grant and contract invoices.
- Conference Budget Management:
- Provide pre-event budgets to conference planners for key events. Conduct post-conference budget analysis to evaluate adherence to the budgets and use this data to set the budgets for the following year.
- Collaborate with the Senior Meetings and Membership Manager and event leads to forecast and track financial aspects of events.
- Complete post-event financial reconciliations and handle the billing process among participating organizations, ensuring accurate and timely financial settlement. This will include working with the Senior Meetings and Membership Manager to ensure proper coding of event-related bills.
- Grant Administration and Financial Management:
- In tandem with NADO’s financial consultants and Associate Directors, oversee the administration and financial management of grants, optimizing funding allocation and ensuring compliance with grantor guidelines, including
- Work with the Senior Operations Manager to package and submit grant and contract invoices to various funders using their unique platforms.
- Track reimbursement requests and payments and follow up with funders as necessary.
- Maintain files of all grants
- Assure all grant and contract performance reports are submitted on time and copies are maintained in the grant files.
- Monitor and manage grant revenue, expenditures, and budgets to ensure that all funds are utilized within the grant’s permissible timeframe and in accordance with the specified conditions.
- Liaise with funders, associate directors, and senior program managers to provide updates, resolve issues, and maintain communication between funders and the organization.
- Work with NADO’s financial consultants to provide accurate reporting to the management team and NADO Research Foundation Board on grants receivables.

Required Skills:
- Attention to detail.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable OMB guidelines that pertain to federal grants.
- Knowledge and experience in financial management and program reporting related to federal grants and contracts.
- Expertise using Excel spreadsheets.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with financial consultants and senior management, and representatives from various funders.
- Knowledge and familiarity with accounting and association management software programs.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong project management and time management skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

Education and Experience Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required.
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience in financial management, federal grants budgeting and invoicing, preferably in a non-profit or government setting.
Supervisor:
The Staff Accountant role reports to the Executive Director.
Physical Job Requirements:
The work performed in this role is generally sedentary, although some physical effort may infrequently be required, particularly during NADO-hosted events and conferences. This role requires frequent computer and telephone use, including virtual meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
Location and Travel Requirements:
This is a full-time, remote position. Occasional domestic travel is required to attend conferences, events, and meetings.
Compensation and Benefits:
