The City of Walnut Creek is seeking a creative, collaborative, and hands on Assistant Community Development Director. Under direction of the Community Development Director, the incoming Assistant Community Development Director will aide in developing department goals and objectives. Duties include developing and implementing the Planning Division and Housing Division work plans; assigning work activities, projects, and programs; monitoring workflow; reviewing and evaluating work products, methods, and procedures. The ideal candidate will be a passionate and innovative leader that represents the department with integrity and professionalism. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Urban Studies, City and Regional Planning, Environmental Planning, Public Administration, or related field. A Master’s degree in a related field and American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification are highly desirable.

The annual salary range for the Assistant Community Development Director is $139,285 - $195,000; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience. Joe has thirty-one years of experience having served in city, county, regional, national association, and government management since 1991. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy Analysis from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a candidate for a master’s degree in Public Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill.

McKinney has provided congressional testimony on numerous occasions regarding the importance of regional development organizations in helping shape the nation’s economic growth. He is nationally recognized for promoting innovative solutions in areas such as planning and economic development, workforce development, transportation and transit, and aging services.
