Jay Williams Confirmed by Senate as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development

On May 14, the U.S. Senate approved by voice vote the nomination of Jay Williams as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development. Williams was nominated by President Obama to head the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) in September 2013 and his nomination was approved by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee in February. Williams is the former mayor of Youngstown, Ohio and has served in the Obama Administration as Executive Director of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Recovery for Auto Communities and Workers helping communities and workers adversely impacted by the struggles of the domestic automotive business. He also served as White House Deputy Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs where he worked with elected officials from cities, towns, and counties.
