House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Unveils Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill; Mark-Up Scheduled for October 22

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee plans to mark up its version of a surface transportation reauthorization bill on October 22.  The bill text was introduced this week.  The House bill recommends level funding for surface transportation programs with inflationary increases.  Like the Senate bill (the DRIVE Act) approved in July, the bill would set only three years of funding with the intention of identifying revenue for three additional years in the future.

The current extension of surface transportation programs expires October 29, so a short-term extension will likely be required to keep federal transportation dollars flowing to states.
