House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Delays Consideration of Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill

Posted on: September 18th, 2015 by NADO Admin

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee had originally planned to mark up its six-year bill reauthorizing surface transportation programs this week, but that timeline has slipped and it is not clear when the committee will take up the measure.  In late July, the Senate approved a six-year surface transportation reauthorization bill, the Developing a Reliable and Innovative Vision for the Economy (DRVE) Act.  While the bill authorizes surface transportation programs for six years, the Senate Finance Committee was only able to identify three years of offsets to finance the bill.  There has been little progress in the House identifying an offset for a six-year bill.  The current extension of surface transportation programs expires at the end of October.  NADO recently joined 68 other national stakeholder groups in writing to members of the House encouraging them to take up a surface transportation reauthorization bill.  Click here to view the letter.
