House Budget Committee Approves FY2018 Budget Resolution

This week, the House Budget Committee approved a fiscal year (FY) 2018 budget resolution by a vote of 22 to 14.  The budget resolution sets limits on discretionary spending for FY2018 at $621.5 billion for defense programs and $511 billion for non-defense programs.  This level for defense spending is $72.5 billion above the cap imposed by the 2011 Budget Control Act.  The budget also provides reconciliation instructions to lay the groundwork for a comprehensive tax code overhaul.  It is not clear whether the House leadership plans to bring the budget resolution to the floor for a vote before the House leaves for the August recess.
