FHWA Performance Measure Rules Take Effect

Posted on: May 22nd, 2017 by Carrie Kissel

On May 19, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (https://www NULL.fhwa NULL.dot NULL.gov/) (FHWA) published a notice in the Federal Register (https://www NULL.federalregister NULL.gov/documents/2017/05/19/2017-10092/national-performance-management-measures-assessing-performance-of-the-national-highway-system)that the Assessing Performance of the National Highway System, Freight Movement on the Interstate System, and Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program Final Rule would take effect on May 20. However, the section of the final rule published on January 18 relating to measuring greenhouse gases has been delayed indefinitely. A new Federal Register notice will be published if that portion of the rule is to take effect in the future. The final rule on pavement and bridge condition measures had also been previously delayed, but it took effect on May 20 as well.

FHWA has announced two webinars on the rules:

  • Wednesday, May 31, 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM ET: Pavement/Bridge Condition Performance Measures Webinar (https://www NULL.eventbrite NULL.com/e/pavement-and-bridge-condition-performance-measures-final-rule-webinar-registration-34358068909)
  • Thursday June 1, 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM ET: System Performance/Freight/CMAQ Performance Measures Webinar (https://www NULL.eventbrite NULL.com/e/system-performancefreightcmaq-performance-measures-final-rule-webinar-registration-34357822171)

Participants are encouraged to submit questions by May 25 to [email protected] (Performancemeasuresrulemaking null@null dot NULL.gov). For more information on FHWA’s efforts on performance management, click here (http://www NULL.fhwa NULL.dot NULL.gov/tpm).
