Budget Conference Committee Holds First Meeting

Posted on: November 1st, 2013 by NADO Admin

The House-Senate Conference Committee established by legislation to reopen the federal government earlier this month held their first meeting on October 30. The conference committee is charged with reaching a deal on fiscal year FY2014 spending by December 13. Without an agreement in place, a new round of automatic across-the-board spending cuts under sequestration will take effect on January 15, reducing FY2014 discretionary funding by about $20 billion. During their first meeting, members of the conference committee expressed their desire to reach compromise on a method for replacing sequestration and setting an overall spending level for the remainder of FY2014. The conference committee is scheduled to meet again on November 13.
