Legislation to reauthorize the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) was included in the DRIVE Act (S.A. 2266 to H.R. 22), which is the Senate’s six-year surface transportation reauthorization. The provision authorizes ARC for five-years and includes $100 million per year in recommended funding. The provision also includes $10 million a year to improve rural broadband services and would allow local governments and metropolitan planning organizations to receive grants under DOT’s Technology and Innovation Deployment Program (http://www NULL.fhwa NULL.dot NULL.gov/map21/factsheets/tid NULL.cfm). The bill now awaits consideration by the House of Representatives.
