On June 29, President Obama signed the “Airport and Airway Extension Act of 2011, Part III” (P.L. 112-21), which will extend programs under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for three weeks until July 22. The previous extension (P.L. 112-16) was set to expire on June 30. The measure was needed because the two chambers have been unable to agree on a long-term reauthorization measure (H.R. 658). This is the 20th extension of programs under FAA. The last long-term authorization for the FAA, the “Vision 100-Century of Aviation Reauthorization Act” (P.L. 108-176), expired on September 30, 2007.
