The NADO Research Foundation launched the Center for Environmental Stewardship and Regional Development in December 2004, under a cooperative agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The project is focused on promoting regional solutions and strategies for strengthening local environmental stewardship and economic development efforts, including the enhancement of local land use, watershed and air quality management.
Through the Center, the Research Foundation is collecting and promoting best practices, coordinating regional and state level training programs, and offering professional and technical assistance to regional development organizations, local government officials and other interested groups.
As multi-county planning and development entities, the nation's regional development organizations are uniquely positioned to help private sector, community and governmental leaders pursue job creation and retention strategies with a balance between economic progress and environmental sustainability.
The Research Foundation is committed to building upon its research, information and training activities. Through training workshops, resource production and comprehensive reports on the activities of regional development organizations nationwide we hope to promote environmental sustainability through community and economic development.
