Federal-State Regional Commission: Regional Approaches for Local Economic Development

Federal-state regional commissions, such as the Appalachian Regional Commission, have proven to be a thoughtful and effective approach to regional economic development within our nation's most highly distressed regions, according to a new report by the NADO Research Foundation.

The report, Federal-State Regional Commissions: Regional Approaches for Local Economic Development, provides an overview of federal economic development policies, discusses the federal role in local economic development, and offers a synopsis of the six existing and proposed regional commissions. The report also highlights the critical role played by multi-county local development districts in facilitating, coordinating and leading local economic development activities.
