Description
MAPA is seeking a transportation planning professional to assist with the Transportation and Data
Section of the agency. Primary activities of this position include grant administration, mapping, documentation, technical analysis, report preparation, committee administration, project management and other transportation planning tasks. Secondary activities of this position may include coordination of the of MAPA’s travel demand model maintenance and enhancement through use of consultants.
MAPA is currently working on several large studies including the development of a Regional Vision, an FTA Alternatives Analysis, and regional mass transit and bicycle‐pedestrian plans.
This position requires one to three years of experience in transportation planning. Skills in data and
statistical analysis (Excel, Access, SAS, etc.) are required. The candidate should possess strong
knowledge of transportation planning principles and techniques and related federal, state and local
guidelines and regulations. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of ESRI’s ArcGIS software, air
quality regulations and modeling applications, travel demand modeling, experience with federal and
state grant administration, and certification as a Responsible Charge (RC) with the Nebraska Department
of Roads.
The successful candidatewill be technically competent, detail‐oriented, and highly organized. The
candidate must be self‐motivated and able to work and develop skills independently. The candidate
should possess strong verbal and written skills in order to effectively communicate technical information
the public and work effectively with stakeholders, partner agencies, and elected officials.
The Omaha metropolitan area is a vibrant, growing area. Recently ranked by Brookings as having the lowest unemployment rate in the nation, it offers attractive urban mixed‐use and suburban
developments to new residents. The metro area features multiple universities and highly‐rated public
and parochial schools. Many initiatives are underway to build on the region’s current success for the
future, including the development of a robust balanced transportation system.
This position requires a Bachelors degree in transportation or regional planning or engineering or
related studies and one to three years of progressively responsible experience, or any time‐equivalent
combination of experience and education. Anticipated starting salary: $41,350. MAPA reserves the
