Intern (Washington, D.C.)

The intern will work closely with NADO’s Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director on various projects related to rural and small metropolitan economic development issues. Specific topic areas might include regional transportation, economic development, community and economic development planning, business finance, environmental stewardship and sustainable development.

Qualified applicants should be majoring in public policy and/or government and have an interest in rural development. Must possess strong research and analysis skills, including use of the Internet, be MS Word proficient, and have excellent written and verbal skills. Previous graduate interns have researched and written reports that NADO has published, helped plan national and regional conferences, written articles and press releases, developed, conducted and analyzed surveys, and many other interesting projects (and, occasionally, spent time at the copy machine or stuffing envelopes).

This is a paid position.

This is an outstanding opportunity for someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and conduct meaningful work. While there may be some clerical/administrative tasks assigned (we are a small office, so everyone pitches in to get the job done), much of the time will be spent doing research or writing activities.

NADO is a great organization with a staff that genuinely like each other and work together exceedingly well. We look for interns that are willing to produce at a quick pace and in a professional manner, but who are also fun loving and easy going. If you think you fit the bill, please let us know.
